lora McHarg was the second woman to receive a law degree from the University of Colorado. She used her legal skills to help draft the charter for the city of Boulder in 1917. As president of the Boulder Woman's Club, McHarg dedicated herself to the enhancement of Boulder's physical landscape. She initiated the planting of trees and shrubbery at Chautauqua and the placement of 20 iron benches downtown. Her civic involvements included serving on the Boulder City Council from 1920 to 1926. In 1922, she became president of the Colorado Federation of Women's Clubs, working at the national level as director for Colorado of the General Federation of Women's Clubs. McHarg also volunteered on the Boulder Parks Commission for 11 years, and she is credited with providing playgrounds at Chautauqua. Such improvements made a visible impact on the scenery of people's daily lives and shaped the appearance of Boulder today. |
