hiyo Miyasaki of Lafayette married Jim Kanemoto of Longmont in 1944, joining him in a vegetable farming operation there. They gradually acquired and cultivated 350 acres of farmland along Highway 287. "We always worked hard and the money was set aside to buy more land," remembered Chiyo. The hard work paid off. Their vegetable and produce stand enjoyed great popularity from 1934 to 1965, and trucks hauled their produce to the market in Denver. After the arrival of IBM in the area in 1965, the Kanemotos developed their land into what is now Southmoor Park, a mixture of houses, apartments, and businesses. Chiyo was a member of the Buddhist Temple, Longmont Hospital Auxiliary, Fox Hill Country Club, a past president of the Soroptimist Club and a Paul Harris Fellow in the Longmont Rotary Club. The Rotary Club, which Jim led for years, erected the Tower of Compassion in 1972.
