Bob & Marcy Munson
Bob and Marcy Munson moved to Boulder in 1967 when Bob was hired by Ball Aerospace to start an Antenna Business. Bob and Marcy, along with their sons Mike and Chris, planted a one-acre garden in their Boulder backyard in 1975. They thought it would be a good idea to do something productive with the boys. They sold their produce in front of the Boulder Court House on Pearl Street. Marcy ran the Market for 10 years.
The business soon outgrew their backyard garden, so they leased land east of Boulder to grow sweet corn, tomatoes, pumpkins and squash. The vegetables were grown organically using chicken manure from the Valmont chicken plant for fertilizer.
1979 and 1980, Bob and March bought two farms at 75th and Valmont road to start a vegetable stand. In the early 1980s, Munsons became the first major local supplier for Alfalfa Market (corn, squash, pumpkins, etc.). They also became the major supplier of gleaned food (nearly 100,000 pounds a year for 30 years) for Community Food Share Food Bank.
During 1993, the Munsons started producing most of the certified organic seed (sunflower, pumpkins, squash, corn and beans) for Seeds of Change. They later gave this business to their employees. These farms became Red Wagon and part of Ann Cures Farm.
Mike and Chris Munson took over Munson Farms with help from their six children and wives, Joan and Jennifer in 2007. Bob and Marcy help out whenever possible.
“Our motto is to grow and provide the freshest, highest quality natural produce possible.”
