Steve Bosley - BolderBOULDER

There are two men in Boulder who literally keep us running – one of these is Steve Bosley. Since 1979, the BolderBOULDER has attracted citizens of our community and the world to our city. In the initial 10K race 2,700 runners and walkers registered. On Memorial Day 2004 the BolderBOULDER had approximately 50,000 participants. It is the fourth-largest foot race in America bringing thousands of people to our city. Steve's example of motivating individuals too pursue a more healthy life style through physical fitness and distance running has given Boulder prominence as one of the major running and health capitals in the world. Runners World Magazine says, “This may simply be the best mass participation race in the United. States.”

The former president of Bank of Boulder for 24 years, Steve is known in the banking world for his zany ideas of promoting the banking industry. His creative genius as a small-town banker who could host a road race and use various marketing lures in the conservative banking industry drew the attention of such newspapers as the Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times and USA Today. The BolderBOULDER's motto of “Oh Yes You Can!” is part of Steve's daily philosophy of life.

A graduate of the University of Colorado, Steve has distinguished himself by receiving an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the College of Business, Entrepreneur of the Year and many other awards. His service to the community has ranged from coaching youth athletic teams, volunteering for Boy Scouts of America to lecturing on business, ethics, leadership and free enterprise at CU and the United States Military Academy. Honorable discharged from the US Navy; Steve has been called an “All-American citizen, businessman, public servant and role model.” His love for our country has led him to combine fitness with tributes. The beautiful Memorial Day ceremonies on Folsom Field every year is a reminder of those who have given their lives and who serve our country today in the armed forces.

Married to Francie for over 40 years, they have raised 5 children and now enjoy spending time with their 9 grandchildren. Although retired, Steve's volunteer efforts are leading him to continue to support his alma mater by running this Fall for CU Regent. Born in Nebraska in 1942, Steve walks his talk in the way he lives and in his commitment to our community, state and country.
